Guelph Museums salutes the Pan Am and Parapan Am Games

GUELPH, ON, July 2, 2015: The Pan Am and Para Pan Am Games are coming to Toronto, and Guelph Museums is paying tribute to the games with two months of sports-related events for children and their caregivers.

Starting July 9, the museum will host special sports-themed activity days, including Fitness Fad Mondays, Skills and Drills Tuesdays and Wednesdays, Sports Guest Thursdays, and Museum Games Fridays. These days will recur weekly until the end of August.

On Fitness Fad Mondays, museum staff will lead participants through some of the more unusual workouts from the past 100 years, including Prancercise and hula-hoops. These workouts will begin every Monday at 11 am.

On Skills and Drills Tuesdays and Wednesdays, visitors will learn drills and exercises designed to improve agility, speed, precision, flexibility, strength, focus, balance, and coordination. These activities will begin at 11 am and at 2 pm.

For Sports Guests Thursday, the museum has invited former and current athletes from the Guelph area to come in and talk to museum visitors about their sport and the life of an athlete. The talks start at 11 am. The schedule for the Sports Guests Thursdays is as follows:

July 9 – Wheelchair Basketball

July 16 – Cycling with Egidio Bolzon of Guelph Coalition for Active Transportation

July 23 – Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum & Guelph Minor Baseball Association

July 30 – Karate and wrestling with Tri-City Training & Guelph Gryphons

August 6 – Badenoch Archery

August 13 – Track and field with Speed River & Guelph Gryphons

August 20 – Royal City Roller Girls

August 27 – Goalball with Ontario Blind Sports Association

Finally, on Museum Games Fridays, visitors will have the opportunity to participate and compete in a variety of games. The schedule is as follows:

July 10 – Team Spirit Trials

July 17 – Zany Obstacle Course

July 24 – Museum Toss-Away Challenge

July 31 – Pentathlon-Museum Style

August 7 – Mini-putt Target Game

August 14 – Jump and Run Relay

August 21 – Rolling-Around Race

August 28 – Score on Us

All Salute to the Parapan Am and Pan Am Games events are free with the price of admission.
