Eat, Sing and Be Merry at Guelph Civic Museum

GUELPH, ON, November 16, 2012: Join us at Guelph Civic Museum on Friday, November 23 for a festive family-friendly Fourth Friday event and the opening of the exhibition “Eat, Sing and Be Merry: Guelph’s Cultural Holiday Traditions.” The event runs from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. and features special music, dance and refreshments.

Guest curated by Angela Keeley in collaboration with Guelph’s Chinese, Aboriginal, Mexican and Ukrainian communities, the exhibition invites visitors to explore the rich variety of favourite holiday traditions celebrated right here at home. “I am really excited to have had this chance to work so closely with the Guelph Civic Museum and our diverse cultural communities,” says Angela, who initiated this project as part of her graduate studies internship at Guelph Museums.

Eat, Sing and Be Merry evolved from the idea that we all celebrate our heritage through music, stories, food and decorations. By exhibiting examples of these elements from each of the four contributing cultural groups, the exhibition showcases our local diversity, draws attention to the blending of old and new holiday traditions, and encourages us to celebrate together.

Guelph Civic Museum is located at 52 Norfolk St.  For more information, call 519-836-1221 ext. 2773 or visit guelph.ca/museum.
