Doors Open After Dark Application Form

Doors Open After Dark will celebrate Guelph’s 193rd birthday and launch Doors Open weekend, with big, bold, innovative history and art activations at and around the Civic Museum from 5 p.m. April 24 to 1 a.m. April 25. This free event aims to create opportunities to connect, explore and engage the community with history in unique ways.

Historians and artists of all disciplines are encouraged to submit proposals for activations that explore Guelph’s history and identity through themes of reconciliation, diversity, landscape, culture, innovation, and environment.

1.0 Eligibility

This opportunity is open to individuals, collectives and groups from anywhere in the world. Preference will be given to residents of the City of Guelph and Wellington County.

2.0 Submission and Jury Process

Installations will be selected through an open call process. A jury, formed by Guelph Museums, will select the featured installations.

To apply, you must meet the following criteria:

  • You agree to create a site-specific project in public space which responds to the theme
  • Your project must be installed or performed in a safe manner, and abide by all City of Guelph by-laws, laws, and safety standards, (no vehicle idling, no noise violations, all electrical devices must meet code, etc.)

Please complete the attached application form.

Submissions will be assessed by the following criteria:

  1. Innovation and originality
  2. Quality of work
  3. Interpretation of themes
  4. Design and execution plan

Submit your application to museum@guelph.ca using the following format:

Email subject line: “Doors Open After Dark _ Name of Presenter _ Title of Project”.

For example, “Doors Open After Dark _John Galt_My Work of Art”

Please include the following:

  • Application Form
  • Attachments or links to relevant supporting materials
  • C.V./Biography/List of past projects

3.0 Deadline

Deadline for applications is 11:59 p.m. Sunday, March 8, 2020. You will be notified by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, March 20, 2020 if your submission has been accepted.

4.0 Key dates

Deadline for submissions: Sunday, March 8, 11:59 p.m.

Notification of acceptance: Friday, March 20, 5 p.m.

Event: Friday, April 24, 9 p.m. to Saturday, April 25, 1 a.m.
