Building Canada lectures launched at Guelph Civic Museum
GUELPH, ON, January 11, 2017: To celebrate Canada’s sesquicentennial and Guelph’s 190th anniversary, Guelph Museums launches a unique lecture series to reflect on our collective history and the theme of nation building.
Building Canada Lectures, presented in partnership with the University of Guelph, is set for the second Wednesday of each month at 7 PM at Guelph Civic Museum.
The series begins Wednesday, January 11 with Richard W. Hill, “From Kanata to Canada: Ongoing Legacy of the Silver Covenant Chain.”.

February 8 Anita Stewart, Canada IS food! From grease trails to a Mars mission – the building of a culinary nation.
March 8 Matthew Hayday, Celebrating Canada: How commemorations and national days have shaped our country.
April 12 Catharine Wilson, The Heart of Canada: From barn raisings to quilting bees, events that define rural life in Canada.
May 10 Beth Parker, From the Ground Water Up: Exploring the role of water in building Canada and the impact on our future.
June 14 Truth and Reconciliation Panel Discussion: Rebuilding Canada’s relationship with Indigenous peoples.
July 12 Kris Inwood, Making Sense of our Nation: Using the census and historical data to explain who we are and how we live.
August 9 Jeff Thomason, Horse Power: Building Canada on the backs of horses.
September 13 Lawrence Hill, Faction: The merging of fiction and Canadian history
October 11 Dennis Baker, Building Blocks of our Nation: Canada’s constitutional multiplicity
November 8 Why Research Matters, Canada’s Global DNA Detectives panel discussion
December 13 James Raffan, Canada One Five Oh Em Gee: Celebration of nation and community in story and song
