An Evening for Chocolate Lovers at Guelph Museum

GUELPH, ON, January 22: On January 28 at Guelph Civic Museum, savour an evening of chocolate tasting and chocolate making led by candy expert Bruce Merritt, owner of the Candies of Merritt.

Merritt will give a presentation about the history of chocolate, the different types of chocolate, and the history of candy stores in Guelph. He will demonstrate how to use a chocolate mould and will lead participants on a chocolate dipping activity. Participants will sample chocolate throughout his presentation, and have a chance to visit the new How Sweet It Was: Goody Sweets Candy Store, 1934-1968 exhibition.

Candies of Merritt is a family-run candy shop that has been operating in Guelph for 50 years. They are one of the few remaining candy stores that still use traditional methods, and make all of their chocolates and confections by hand.

The event runs from 7 pm to 9 pm. Tickets are $35 + HST and can be purchased at guelph.ca/museum or by phone at 519-836-1221. Guelph Civic Museum is located at 52 Norfolk St.
