Galt 240: Reflection and Reconciliation supported by Guelph Community Foundation Musagetes Fund grant

GUELPH, ON, October 18, 2018: Guelph Museums has been awarded a Musagetes Fund grant, through the Guelph Community Foundation, for the Galt 240: Reflection and Reconciliation initiative.

To commemorate the 240th birthday of Guelph founder John Galt, Guelph Museums will commission a musical theatre presentation exploring Galt’s eclectic background as a writer, businessman, and colonist; his relationship and regard for Six Nations; his advocacy for nation-to-nation relationships between the British Crown and First Nations; and his influence that continues to shape Guelph nearly 200 years after its founding.  During this time of reconciliation in Canada, this show will shed light on a deeper narrative about Guelph’s founding and the noble ambitions of its founder to work side-by-side with the original keepers of this land.

For 2018, The Musagetes Fund goal is to make arts more central and meaningful in people’s lives, said the release. They are looking for innovative and bold projects that help with new approaches to building community and culture.
