Faces to Names: Remembrance Discovery Day

November 22 @ 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm

Do you have a photograph, letter, document or personal object connected to someone
named on the Guelph Cenotaph? Faces to Names invites you to bring these items, and their stories, to
Remembrance Discovery Day. The event supports a local remembrance project for Guelph’s 2027 bicentennial, helping uncover the lives behind the names on the Cenotaph. Family photographs and keepsakes can reveal details that official records alone cannot: a person’s interests, relationships and everyday life before military service.

“Remembrance Discovery Day is a litle like Antiques Roadshow, but the value we’re looking for is in the
stories,” says Karen Hunter, Founder and Executive Director of Faces to Names. “A photograph or letter
can reveal someone’s personality—their humour, interests, and hopes for the future. These personal
details help students connect with the people behind the names on our Cenotaph, making remembrance
more meaningful and relevant.”

Remembrance Discovery Day builds on student workshops held at Gulph Civic Museum in October, helping students put their learning into practice through conversations with community members and the careful documentaion of historical material. With contributor’s permission, suitable digital copies and stories may support future Faces to Names profiles. Residents who have an item to share are encouraged to register. Owners will take their original items home.

The invitation is specifically for material connected to individuals commemorated on the Guelph Cenotaph “Families don’t need to have a complete history,” adds Hunter. “Even a single photograph or a small piece of information could provide an important clue.”
