To commemorate Canada’s sesquicentennial and Guelph’s 190th anniversary, Guelph Museums and the University of Guelph have teamed up to present This Day in Guelph, Ontario, Canada History – Old news gets a modern twist as we revisit news stories from the past 150 years.


February 6, 1968

“Guelph Spring Festival Group Asks Council for $12, 000 Donation.” On behalf of the Spring Festival Group, Dr. M.H.M. McKinnon, dean of Wellington Centre, University of Guelph, requested a grant of $12,000 from City Council for the annual Guelph Spring Festival.

Expenditures anticipated included $5000 for publicity, $5000 for the music festival, and $2000 for bands and fireworks.
