Meet Lucile\, Lady Duff Gordon\, the fashionista of her day – inventor of the fashion show\, creator of respectable scanty lingerie\, and designer to the rich and famous. For the first time ever in Canada\, see Lucile gowns\, lingerie and accessories on loan from museums and private collections from around the world. \nLucile gowns\, hats\, and lingerie will be displayed in a room that evokes her Paris salon. In a second gallery\, a model of the Titanic will depict how she escaped from the sinking liner.  The exhibition will be supported with videos\, talks\, tours and interactive programs.

SUMMARY:Ken Danby: Five Decades
DESCRIPTION:Guelph artist Ken Danby is widely recognized as one of Canada’s most accomplished realist artists. This exhibition will feature his portraits\, landscapes\, and iconic Canadian imagery including studies for the Wayne Gretzky portrait\, The Great Farewell\, Calgary Stampede\, Niagara Falls\, and Guelph Carousel among others. Danby methodically restored local Armstrong’s Mill to a living and studio space-this environment became the subject of many of his art works including At the Crossroads\, Pulley Wheel\, and Cooling Off. \nUnique to the exhibition will be the first public showing of Danby’s mechanized easel that he designed to orientate his painting surface towards the changing conditions of natural light. Also featured will be views of the Canadian shield where his untimely death occurred in 2007 while on a canoe trip in Algonquin Park\, cutting short the outstanding career of one of Canada’s most highly acclaimed artists. Danby is recognized as Canada’s finest painter in  water colour. The exhibition will also include examples of Danby’s work dating from the 1960s in his chosen media of egg tempera on board\, oil on canvas\, water colour\, serigraphy\, and lithography.  This exhibition will be guest curated by Judith Nasby curator emerita of the Art Gallery of Guelph. The art works will be on loan from the Art Gallery of Guelph\, the University of Guelph\, and from corporate and the Danby Estate. \nKen Danby: Five Decades will be on display at the Guelph Civic Museum from November 25\, 2016 to January 15\, 2017.
