Sons of ‘17 join Guelph Museums 2018 John McCrae memorial tour of Belgium and France

GUELPH, ON, August 30, 2017: Mike Ford and Murray Foster will bring their acclaimed Sons of ’17 show on the road with Guelph Museums during the “In the Footsteps of John McCrae” tour of Belgium and France.

The play depicts an unlikely pair of musicians that meet in Guelph during the spring of 1917 to rehearse songs for soldier recruitment, all while revealing home front emotions, opinions, and diversions of the time.

“Sons of ’17 was originally commissioned by Canada’s History Society for the 2014 Governor General’s History Awards Gala,” said Mike Ford, writer and director of Sons of ’17. “Murray and I adapted the piece to create the 2016 show for McCrae House’s beautiful open-air stage”.

In The Footsteps of John McCrae Tour of Belgium and France, organized by Guelph Museums in partnership with Frederick Travel, will commemorate the 100th year since the passing of Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae and the end of the First World War. The group tour will trace McCrae’s overseas service and culminate in a memorial service at his gravesite.

Guided by Guelph Museums recently retired curator, Bev Dietrich, participants will learn first-hand about the life and times of the Guelph-born solider, doctor and poet by exploring sites where McCrae tended to the wounded and wrote In Flanders Fields.

The tour departs Canada April 27, 2018 and returns May 5, 2018. The cost is $3,895 per person based on twin/double occupancy.
