Illuminating the Holidays: Holly & Ivy

Join us for a Holiday Workshop with Debbie Thompson Wilson! Holly and ivy plants have been associated with the winter solstice since ancient times. We will be painting either a picture of a deer or of a bird with holly and ivy decoration, in miniature with 23 k. gold leaf accents. There will be a choice of images to paint, from simple to more complex. Some watercolour experience is required.

Materials to bring to class:

  • Basic set of watercolours (either tubes or cakes)
  • Palette or plate for mixing colours
  • Small watercolour brushes (Size 0 or smaller ) and an old fine brush you don’t care about (to use with glue size)
  • Faber Castell Pitt Artist pen in black, size XS (available from Wyndham Art Supply) or other fine liner pen (must be waterproof)
  • 4B, 5 B, or 6B pencil
  • Kneadable erasor sharp
  • Scissors
  • X-acto knife with #11 blade
  • Ruler
  • Water Container
  • Rag or paper towel
  • Palatte or china plate to mix colours on

Supplies provided for $10 supply fee (payable in class to Debbie, CASH ONLY): 

  • one fine watercolour brush
  • 23k gold leaf and gilding glue
  • watercolour paper
  • handouts,exemplars and misc. materials

 

Please note:

There will be a lunch break during the workshop. Participants may bring a bagged lunch or leave the museum to go get lunch in the area.
