This Day In Guelph History: February 26, 1872

To commemorate Canada’s sesquicentennial and Guelph’s 190th anniversary, Guelph Museums and the University of Guelph have teamed up to present This Day in Guelph, Ontario, Canada History – Old news gets a modern twist as we revisit news stories from the past 150 years.

February 26, 1872

The Council of Agricultural and Arts Association visited Guelph farmland as part of their efforts to find a suitable location for a new agricultural college. In 1874, the Ontario School of Agriculture and Experimental Farm, later renamed the Ontario Agricultural College, officially opened.
